Sempervivum, Montfort, Hen And Chicks: You will love these succulent perennial plants that are relatively easy to grow and absolutely beautiful. They are popular in today's xeriscape gardens, rooftop gardens, and trough gardens. You can even grow them in pure gravel. Expect the neat rosettes to multiply freely by runners that form dense colonies of little "chicks". You can expect them to flower with maturity, and after they flower, the rosettes will die. However, they will be replaced quickly by new growth. With color changes to boot, this is a succulent that is hard to resist. The green color changes to red when it is planted outside and the temperatures are dropping.

- Care: The most important care instruction for this plant is to ensure it never sits in overly moist soil. It needs excellent drainage, loving sandy and gritty soils best. If you must plant in clay-filled soils, be sure to loosen and then mound the clay, placing the plant atop the mound to improve drainage. And avoid barks and mulches which can rot this plant's roots. Beyond that, if you find the rosettes growing in an elongated manner and reaching toward the sky, move the plant to a location where it will get more sunlight. This is a sun lover!
